UK trade gap narrows sharply in January

’s trade deficit narrowed in January to its smallest since October 2005 as imports fell and exports outside the EU surged. The Office of National Statistics said that the UK trade gap narrowed to a deficit of £6.226bn from £6.945bn in December. Economists had forecasted a deficit for £6.9bn. The news gave Sterling a boost across the board pushing GBP/USD to 1.9315 and GBP/EUR to 1.4670.
